How To Manifest Confidence During A Job Interview

Manifestation isn’t always just about dreaming of all the things you’d like to create in your life (though that’s an important part, too!) – it’s also a tool you can use to create change in any aspect of your life that you feel could be improved.

For me, that recently was job interviews.  

In the past, I’d go into interviews feeling fearful, weak, and insecure, feeling like I was in danger and being set up for failure while interviewing for a new role.  

I felt these negative emotions despite knowing I had always been a top employee, receiving promotions and praise for all of the wonderful work I did throughout my career.  

Why was I trembling in fear in the face of new opportunities rather than embracing all my past success as fuel to carry me to the next level?

I realized in that moment that by not actively working to change my perception of interviews and new jobs, I was letting my brain take over and activate its default “change is bad” and “I am not worthy” mindset – I was choosing to allow these negative subconscious beliefs to play out.

I decided to actively work on a new mindset for job interviews that would allow me to flow through them with confidence and ease, and even feel excitement and worthiness going into them (something I never dreamed possible in the past!).

The first thing I decided to do was script. I use scripting as a powerful manifestation tool when dreaming about other aspects of my life, so this felt like a good place to start.

I grabbed my journal and started describing in the present tense exactly how my ideal job interview would go. Here’s an excerpt from my journal with what I wrote:

I take a deep breath before the call and feel fully centered. I am calm, confident, and so excited to talk to the hiring manager. She is warm, kind, and eager to talk to me, too. She asks me about my background, and I flow through it with confidence and ease. 

As I speak, I realize I’m smiling because I love sharing the great things I’ve done and I’m so proud of all my accomplishments. She asks me questions as the interview goes on, and the perfect examples pop into my head. I speak slowly, clearly, and communicate my responses perfectly.

I build momentum as the call goes on, feeling more and more confident with each passing moment. I am safe in this interview. I can tell the manager wants to impress me, too, and wants me to succeed.

I am talent that any team would be lucky to have, and she knows that. I answer all of her questions with confidence and great examples, then ask a few of my own questions about the team.

We wrap up the call and both feel great – I conveyed how wonderful of a team player I am and she helped me better understand the job. I am so proud of myself and how well I interviewed.

As I scripted, I felt a sense of calm confidence wash over me.

I then decided to develop several affirmations I could repeat to myself over and over in the days leading up to a job interview to maintain that feeling that came from scripting.

Here are some of the affirmations I created:

  • I inhale confidence and exhale fear.

  • I am calm, confident, and clear when I speak.

  • Answers always come to me exactly when I need them.

  • I am a great employee and an asset to any team.

  • I am safe in this interview.

  • The universe always has my back and guides me in the right direction.

  • I release any stress and let my body feel at ease.

  • I am so good at interviewing.

  • I have everything I need inside me to succeed.

  • Jobs are abundant and I have my pick of which one I want.

  • Interviews always go so smoothly for me.

  • I can have any job I desire.

  • I am successful.

  • I always know what to say during interviews.

  • I am a perfect candidate for this role.

  • I have all the experience I need to perform this job well.

  • I am prepared.

  • My combination of personality and skills always helps me stand out.

  • I’ve totally got this! 

I said these affirmations out loud, wrote them in my journal, and read them silently to myself as often as I could remember, letting myself feel into the confidence, peace, and ease that came with reciting them over and over.

The result? For each interview I’ve had since creating these affirmations, I’ve felt calm and confident during the interview, had the perfect answers for each question I was asked, and received great feedback on my ability to communicate my past experience clearly.
